IBM 3153 ASCII Terminal Display - Host printer configuration

3153 Host, Printer and Configuration information includes:
- Single/Dual Session Info
- 3151 Main, Auxiliary Communication Port Interface Info
- 3151 Main, Auxiliary Communication Port Usage Info

The 3153 supports:
- Single Session, No Printer
- Host Session can be configured on either the 3153 Main (SES1-EIA) Port or the 3153 Auxiliary (SES2-AUX) Port.
- The user can choose which 3153 port (Main or Auxiliary) is the host session. The 3153 setup value 'Host/Printer' should be set accordingly.
- If 3153 Main Port=Host Port: Set 'Host/Printer'='EIA/None'
- If 3153 Aux Port=Host Port: Set 'Host/Printer'='Aux/None'
- Set 'Sessions'='One'

Single Session, Serial Printer:
- Host Session can be configure on either the 3153 Main (SES1-EIA) Port or the 3153 Auxiliary (SES2-AUX) Port.
- The user can choose which 3153 port (Main or Auxiliary) is the host session and which is the serial port. The 3153 setup value 'Host/Printer' should be set accordingly.
- If 3153 Main Port=Host Port and Aux Port=Printer Port: Set 'Host/Printer'='EIA/Aux'
- If 3153 Main Port=Printer Port and Aux Port=Host Port: Set 'Host/Printer'='Aux/EIA'
- Set 'Sessions'='One'

Single Session, Parallel Printer:
- Host Session can be configure on either the 3153 Main (SES1-EIA) Port or the 3153 Auxiliary (SES2-AUX) Port.
- The user can choose which 3153 port (Main or Auxiliary) is the host session. The 3153 setup value 'Host/Printer' should be set accordingly.
- If Main Port=Host Port: Set 'Host/Printer'='EIA/Para'
- If Aux Port=Host Port: Set 'Host/Printer'='Aux/Para'
- Set 'Sessions'='One'

Dual Session, No Printer:
- Dual Session can must be configured using 3153 Main (SES1-EIA) Port and the 3153 Auxiliary (SES2-AUX) Port.
- Each 3153 session can have its own unique setup.
- Persons switch between sessions by pressing Left-Ctrl Key and the Enter Key (numeric keypad).
- Set 'Host/Printer'='EIA/None'
- Set 'Sessions'='Two'

Dual Session, Parallel Printer:
- Dual Session can must be configured using 3153 Main (SES1-EIA) Port and the 3153 Auxiliary (SES2-AUX) Port.
- The 3153 'Sessions' setup parameter must be set to 'Two'.
- Each 3153 session can have its own unique setup.
- Persons switch between sessions by pressing Left-Ctrl Key and the Enter Key (numeric keypad).
- Set 'Host/Printer'='EIA/Para'
- Set 'Sessions'='Two'

3153 Serial Communications Ports Summary Information:
- Main Port (SES1-EIA):
- RS-232 or RS-422 (based on the 3153 model).
- When RS-232 interface, configured as a DTE.

For a DTE:
Pin 2 (Transmit Data): Direction is out
Pin 3 (Receive Data): Direction is in
- Usage: Host (direct attach or modem) or serial printer
- Auxiliary Port (SES2-AUX):
- Always RS-232 interface, configured as a DCE.

For a DCE:
Pin 2 (Transmit Data): Direction is in
Pin 3 (Receive Data): Direction is out
- Usage: Host (direct attach or modem) or serial printer

Note of Caution:
- When attaching a 3153 to a host system, and/or printer using 3153 Main Port, and/or 3153 Auxiliary Port, persons must know if the host system port is a DCE/DTE and must know if the printer is a DCE/DTE. This information is used to determine what cabling (Modem cable or Null Modem Cable) is required. If the cabling is incorrect, communications will not occur between 3153 and host, or 3153 and printer.
- Remember, In general:
- DCE to DCE (or DTE to DTE): Requires Null Modem Cable
- DCE to DTE: requires Host/Modem Cable

Remember:
- When both 3153's ports are RS-232:
- 3153 Main Port is a DTE and 3153 Auxiliary Port is a DCE.
