Applicable to: Canada, United States
The following steps can be used to run Easy Test Diagnostics on 2134/2176 systems:
1. Place the Aptiva Diagnostics and Utilities CD in the CD-ROM drive. Use proper shutdown procedures, power off the system. Restart the system.
2. A menu will come up. Option one, "Run Easy Test Diagnostics" will be highlighted, press "Enter" to select option one.
3. At the next screen, press any key other than "Enter" to continue. If you press "Enter," the system will restart.
4. At the "Q/A Plus Novice Diagnostics" screen, Press "Enter" to select "Easy Test." System analysis then occurs.
5. When activity stops, the first test is the floppy drive. To skip the Floppy drive test, press "Escape" and testing of other components will continue. To test Floppy drive, insert a high-density, formatted, non-write-protected floppy diskette into drive and press "Enter."
6. Per instruction, unplug all cables going into the Mwave card on the back of the computer.
7. Press "Enter" to start testing procedure. System board and other components are then tested; this portion of the test should take approximately 8-10 minutes.
8. After the evaluation portion of test is complete, the system will stop at a report screen where the test results may be reviewed. Use "Up" or "Down arrows to scroll through data. Press "Escape" for next screen.
9. This screen presents an option to print test results. Press "Escape" to quit or "Enter" to print. This report may also be printed upon completion of the Easy Test and may be reviewed from the "Aptiva Helper", IBM Helpware Support page when your return to Windows. You will then receive an opportunity to print the Log. Press "Escape" to cancel printing of log and end Easy Test
Diagnostics.
Path to simple log: C:\Diagnost\Simple.Log. Path to detailed log; C:\Diagnost\verbos. Log. Both files may be opened in Windows Notepad or a word processor.
10. Remove the Diagnostics CD. Press "Enter" to shut down system. Replace cables on back of tower. The single cable from the microphone belongs in the socket labeled "Mic," closest to the telephone line socket. The double cable from the speakers belongs in the socket labeled "Out," which is the farthest from the telephone line socket. Usually the middle socket marked "Line in" is left empty.
