IBM PC - Occasional disk drive noise

Symptom:
PC 300 and PC 700 systems may produce unexpected noise from the fixed disk drive when no apparent read/write activity should be occurring.
Problem Isolation Aid:
Fixed disk drives are programmed to perform normal drive maintenance to ensure optimum drive performance. The maintenance program may include a short period of rapid head seeks that occur approximately every 10 minutes.This produces an audible fixed disk noise.
Fix:
This behaviour is normal and no parts should be replaced.
