TP 380,385,560,760,770 - BIOS disk that comes with new hard drive fails

SYMPTOM:
When trying to update the BIOS on the ThinkPad with the BIOS update diskette that shipped with a larger hard drive it fails. There appears to be only one file on the diskette and it does not do anything.
CONFIGURATION:
Any ThinkPad 380, 385, 560, 760, or 770 trying to update the BIOS with the diskette that came with a recently purchased hard drive upgrade. The following hard drives could be affected:
