Aptivaize loops installing Aptiva Desktop Customization.

Detail:
If you have already installed Aptiva Desktop Customization before runnning Aptiva-ize, the Aptiva-ize process will hang at the point of installing Aptiva Desktop Customization and keep on looping the installation of ADC.

Answer / Workaround:
To stop the endless loop, press CTRL-ALT-DEL and remove the Desktop Customization install from the "Close Programs" dialog box (End Task). You will probably need to Uninstall and then Install a Desktop Customization again cleanly.

Exiting Desktop Customization causes a GPF.

Detail:
If you exit Desktop Customization, while Access Aptiva is running, it will cause a GPF as follows: "ACSA caused a general protection fault in module USER.EXE at 0004:000017de." When the user presses "CLOSE", Access Aptiva is shut down in addition to Desktop Customization. To recreate:
1. Right-click on the Desktop Customization icon in the System Tray.
2. Click on "EXIT".

Answer / Workaround:
This is a limitation of the application. Will be addressed in future release.

Pressing F1 for Help not working.

Detail:
If you press the F1 key for help, nothing happens.

Answer / Workaround:
The F1 key is not designed to bring up help, nor are there any references to "F1 for Help" in Desktop Customization. Should not effect many users, deferred to next program.

Problem with installing ADC.

Detail:
When Installing Desktop Customization just after an Uninstall you will receive errors regarding overwriting files. Some you can bypass by selecting "Cancel", other errors you cannot bypass.

Answer / Workaround:
After Uninstalling Desktop Customization (OR any other program for that matter) you need to restart Windows to allow InstallShield to remove those files which were "tagged" for deletion. Once you have restarted, the Installation process will go fine.

Locking entire directories takes a VERY long time.

Detail:
When locking an entire directory using LeCle', it will take an extremely long time to complete. There is no message displayed to indicate progress, or completion. The system does not respond to any keyboard or mouse input during the locking process.

Answer / Workaround:
This is a limitation of the LeCle' locking program. When an entire directory is locked, it actually locks every file in the directory individually. With a large directory (several megs), it will take several minutes to complete. For example, to lock the C:\APTDEMO directory, which is about 230Mb in size, will take nearly 5 minutes to complete. Unlocking the same directory takes about 2 minutes. The system also will not accept input during the UnLock process. There are no workarounds for this item, the user will simply need to wait until the process has completed.

Wallpaper preview size is incorrect.

Detail:
In Desktop Customization, if you select different sizes of wallpaper, the preview shows them all the same size.

Desktop Customization not in STARTUP after reinstall.

Detail:
If you Uninstall then ReInstall, the icon is not placed into the startup folder until you reboot. There is no prompt to inform you that you must 'reboot for changes to take effect'. Also note: After reboot, the icon will be added to the startup group, however, it will not be running until you reboot again, now that the icon is present.

Answer / Workaround:
In order to have Desktop Customizations active again after Uninstall, you must reboot TWICE after reinstallation.

Start Menu banner preview not working properly.

Detail:
If you go to the 'Start Menu Banner' tab, and select a different banner, the preview window still shows the same banner.

Answer / Workaround:
The preview window will always show the default banner, it is designed to show the direction of the banner motion only.

Errors during ReInstallation.

Detail:
If you receive errors during Installation or ReInstallation such as: (1) "Unable to locate the installation log file 'c:\program files\ibm\aptdesk\delsl2.isu' uninstallation will not continue" OR (2) "General file transfer error. Please check your target location and try again: Error number: -37 Related File: c:\Program Files\IBM\Aptdesk\MVDZ1EXE.EXE"

Answer / Workaround:
Make certain that Desktop Customization is NOT running prior to starting the Install or ReInstall. If it is running in the background, files are in use and cannot be overwritten. Also, when you UnInstall, you MUST REBOOT prior to Installing again. Some files are not deleted until you reboot, if they are still there, it causes problems during Install.

Cannot apply a different Wallpaper selection.

Detail:
If you go into the Wallpapers section, and select a new wallpaper from the "All Wallpapers" window, then click 'OK' or 'APPLY', the background doesn't change.

Answer / Workaround:

The icon is not corrupt, it is just allowing the user to select the default Windows icon.

The "ABOUT" bitmap is incorrect when used within a help file. To reproduce: Click Start-Programs-Access Aptiva-Control-Aptiva Desktop Customization-Customization Help. If password is setup screensavers won't cycle.

Detail:
In ADC if you select at least two screen savers and choose the option to have them cycle they won't cycle if in Windows -> Control Panel -> Display Properties-> Screensaver -> Password a password has been entered. If no password is entered then the screensavers do cycle as they should. There is also no interface from within ADC to allow a user to enter in a password.

Answer / Workaround:
The ability to set passwords with multiple screensavers selected was in the code at the onset of the project. What we found was that after returning to your machine after a long period of time, you would have to enter the password for each time that the screen saver cycled. Because of this quirk, it was decided that passwords would work with one screen saver selected but not more than one. This same code change is the reason that we do not set passwords under ADC. The user can set passwords through Windows 95 and ADC recognizes these but the focus of our tab is multiple screen savers, not screen savers with passwords.

General File Transfer Error when reinstalling.

Detail:
When doing a Reinstall you will get a message that says "A read only file ...was found.... To overwrite the file click 'yes', otherwise click 'no'..." If you click 'no', it reinstalls fine, but when you click 'yes' an 'SEVERE' error is displayed "General File Transfer Error."

Answer / Workaround:
When uninstalling, InstallShield does not remove files that are in use at the time of the uninstall. When you reboot these files will be removed. If you try and reinstall before rebooting, you will get the error message that you observed.

Icon launch effects seen with single clicks.

Detail:
When the Windows95 setting for "Show All Files" is enabled, the icon launch effects are seen on any mouse clicks. To recreate:
1) Open two directory folders on screen at the same time, such as "My Computer" and "Online Services".
2) In one of these windows, click on 'View' then 'Options'., 3) Click on the 'View' tab, then select "Show all Files".
4) Click Apply--> OK.
5) Single click or Double click any icon in either of these windows. Note that when you single click the icon effect is the same as a double click is supposed to be (spins twice), and a double click is two animations in a row before the icon launches (spins four times).

Answer / Workaround:
This is a limitation of the application, which will be addressed in a future release.
