IBM PC 300PL (Type 6862, 6892) - DMI information is incomplete for new planar
Applicable to: World-Wide
Symptom:
After replacing the system planar and restarting the system, the Desktop Management Interface (DMI) application displays incomplete or innacurate system information.
Other system management programs that utilize Vital Product Data (VPD) stored in the system's BIOS may also report incorrect system information.
Problem isolation aids:
This tip applies to IBM PC 300PL Series 6862/6892 systems where the system planar has been replaced.
This tip will also apply to other systems when the system planar has been replaced and system management tools (DMI, LCCM, LANDesk, etc.) are utilized.
Fix:
Verify that the correct machine type and serial number is displayed in the Product Information section of the F1 Setup utility (BIOS).
The DMI error condition will be caused when the servicer has replaced the system planar AND NOT entered the correct machine type and serial number when updating the flash BIOS for the system being serviced.
If the correct machine type and serial numbers have not been entered correctly, reflash the BIOS and answer Yes when prompted to enter the machine type, model, and serial numbers.
This procedure MUST be completed whenever a system board is replaced for all machine types and models.
