THINKPAD 365X/XD FEATURES
LCD DISPLAY: This system comes with a SVGA 11.3-inch DSTN or TFT or a SVGA 10.4-inch TFT (measured diagonally) color display. This display provides superior viewing capability and helps lessen the glare indoors. The SVGA 11.3-inch TFT is new this release to the 365X/XD family.

KEYBOARD AND TRACKPOINT III: The keyboard has the familiar layout of a ThinkPad with a function key capability that allows you to quickly access system functions, such as power management control. The keyboard lifts up allowing access to the HDD and battery for upgrades or quick battery changes. The TrackPoint III is an enhanced TrackPoint(TM) II with an improved non-slip TrackPoint cap and more accurate pointing capability through improved software. The "drag and drop" function of the
click buttons is enhanced. You can lock and hold the buttons in without continuously pushing on them.

PROCESSOR: The systems have a 120MHz or 133MHz (1) Pentium processor, which provides exceptional performance.

MEMORY: The ThinkPad 365X/XD systems are designed to use non-parity, 64-bit EDO SO DIMM memory. Standard memory is 8MB but can be expanded to a maximum of 40MB. This is a new type of memory that can be used with only the ThinkPad 64-bit 8MB, 16MB, or 32MB EDO SO DIMMS 3.3 V, non-parity memory options, or equivalent, announced with the 760EL family systems. This new memory cannot be used with previously announced
755 or 760 ThinkPads and 365 ThinkPads announced before April 23, 1996.

PCMCIA: The Type III slot can accommodate either two Type I, two Type II, or one Type III PC card.

IBM PC: Card Director software is preinstalled and provides support for the latest PCMCIA standard, 2.1. This software enables many PCMCIA cards, allowing you to simply plug in the card.

PC CARD DIRECTOR WITH AUTO CONFIGURATOR AND MEMORY DEVICE DRIVER: PC Card Director helps you get status and information on PCMCIA cards installed in the system. In addition, PC Card Director can register an application program for PCMCIA cards and execute them automatically.

The Auto Configurator and Memory Device Driver enable supported PCMCIA cards by sensing them automatically. PCMCIA cards supported by the Auto Configurator and Memory Device Driver are listed in the Sales Manual pages.

STORAGE: The systems have a customer-replaceable hard drive -- 810MB, 1.08GB, or 1.35GB. The 1.44MB FDD is standard.

Attaching an external keyboard
Attaching an external keyboard and mouse

Serial Connector (RS-232D)
Serial device port for connecting serial devices such as an external Modem.

Enhanced Parallel Connector
Enhanced Parallel device port for connecting devices such as printers.

Infrared port
Provides a wireless connection to devices, such as other notebook and desk top Personal Computers, via IR, that are equipped with a 115Kbs IrDA compliant IR transceiver. The 365X/XD has been designed to be compatible with the IrDA
(Infrared Data Association) data link specification version 1.0 for IRLMP, IRLAP, and IR physical signaling. Uses include transferring files, etc.

Built-in 16-bit stereo audio
Standard on all models (supports Sound Blaster** Pro-compatible applications).

Stereo audio jacks
Provides for the connection of external stereo speakers/headphones and microphone on the 365X/XD.

External Display Connector
External display port for connecting one of the supported VGA or SVGA displays that may be used in desktop environment instead of the LCD that is standard with the system. Also supporting an attachment of ISO 9241-3 enabled IBM monitors'. It provides 75 Hz refresh rate and "flicker-free" display clarity. Dual Display of LCD and an external display is also supported.

PCMCIA slot
The IBM ThinkPad 365X and 365XD Additional Models conforms to the PCMCIA Release 2.1 specification.

System Expansion Connector
Provides connection to the IBM 365 Port Replicator.

The IBM ThinkPad 365X and 365XD Additional Models systems support the attachment of external keyboards. In particular, the IBM Enhanced Keyboard with PS/2 Style Cable
(PN 92G7453 FN 2289) and the IBM ThinkPad Space Saver Keyboard(PN 84G2524 FN 2298).

AC ADAPTER
The AC adapter is an alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC) converter to supply the necessary power to the computer. The AC adapter also charges the battery pack when it is installed in the computer.

PC Cards which do not support
the power management function may cause the shorter battery operation hours.

STANDARD BATTERY INFORMATION
The NIMH battery approximate operation hours and charging hours are:
Power off/suspend charging 1.2
Charging during operation 1.5
Battery Operation (*1) 2.0

(*1) : Battery life (and recharge times) will vary based on screen brightness, applications, features, power management, battery conditioning, and other customer preferences. HDD usage may also have a significant impact on battery life.

IMPORTANT: The NiMH battery for the IBM ThinkPad 365 Family will not work in any IBM ThinkPad 760 system.

LIMITATIONS:
When using external TrackPoint (e.g., SpaceSaver KBD), internal TrackPoint should be disabled.

The system audible alarm will not sound under some setup modes. It can be enabled by using ThinkPad Features program.

I/O port addresses for audio and token ring conflict with each other. When token ring is used, either audio or token-ring I/O port address needs to be changed for proper function.

The external FDD of ThinkPad 365C/CS/CD/CSD/E/ED does not work on ThinkPad 365/X/XD.

An external CRT, which supports only VGA resolution, can not be installed if display mode is both LCD and CRT, because the display port always has SVGA signal as long as LCD screen is on.

These systems support PCMCIA PC cards that draw a maximum of 2.64 watts (0.8A at 3.3 V DC).

Enabling IR on the host system during a co-sessions host session is not supported.

Microsoft NT Workstation V3.51 - the limitations, tips and techniques, and device drivers can be obtained at no charge from IBM's PC Company BBS at 919-517-0001. Also, customers with access capability can obtain this information from the Internet at FTP.PC.IBM.COM and from the ThinkPad Forum on CompuServ.

Use boot manager when booting OS/2 Warp from a secondary drive, such as the PCMCIA Type III drive.

A suspend/resume operation during a modem application in the Windows DOS box may cause the application to hang. The modem application should be closed before entering a suspend.

A suspend/resume operation during audio recording may result in unexpected results. Audio recordings should be stopped before entering suspend.

When using Windows 95 or OS/2 Warp Version 3, a suspend/resume operation during AVI file, MIDI, WAV, or other audio feature operation may cause an audio/video synchronous problem or the application to hang. The application should be closed before entering a suspend.

The 32-bit disk access driver for Windows 3.11 or Windows for Workgroups 3.11 in the preloaded utilities shipped with the system can only be installed in a directory named "Windows." If the "Windows" directory has been renamed, for example, WIN311 or WFWG311, this driver cannot be installed by the utilities diskette.

Some optional features or applications may use the COM2 port. OS/2 Warp Version 3 will not load COM.SYS if the COM2 port is already in use. Only one such feature or application that uses the COM2 (for example, communications or PCMCIA) can be used at a time.

The OS/2 Warp FixPak XR0W009 is required for audio and video support for Indeo**-format video file playback functions.

When using the redirector feature of the Connectivity Pack for the HP 100LX or HP 200LX to exchange data over an IR link at 115 Kbps, the ThinkPad 365XD should be configured as the requestor.

At 800 x 600 resolution, the 72Hz refresh rate is not supported if 64K color is selected with an external display (CRT).

IRQ for Sound Blaster Pro is 5 or 7 only.

Continuous use of the HDD drive or CD-ROM drive, such as reading long video files, will impact battery life.

The system is designed so that the customer can install or remove the PCMCIA card without turning off the system, if the PCMCIA card supports this function. Refer to the instructions that come with the PCMCIA card.

When installing two Type II PCMCIA communications cards in the PCMCIA slot, there may be some cable interference that allows only one card to be used.

PC card point enablers may write directly to the hardware, bypassing Socket and Card Services. Writing directly to the hardware may cause problems that cannot be anticipated. Also, point enablers may interfere with client device drivers that do communicate with Socket and Card Services. Additional customer testing in their specific environments is recommended.

In text mode of DSTN models, images will be shown in full screen only.

The IBM Keyboard/Mouse Connector accessory is required when attaching an external keyboard to the system via the external input device port.

In the case of the DSTN LCD model, screen-in-text mode, such as DOS or OS/2 full screen, is displayed in extended format.

SUSPEND MODE OPERATIONAL CONSIDERATIONS
Do not remove or install PC cards during suspend mode.
When using Windows 3.11, ensure that Advanced Power Management (APM) is installed.
The system should be in either hibernation or "off" when exchanging battery.
During suspend mode, the maximum power output becomes 100 mW at 12 V. During suspend mode, PCMCIA cards cannot consume more than 60 MA at 12 V.

SECURITY, AUDITABILITY AND CONTROL
STANDARD SECURITY FEATURES FOR THE 2625: The electronic personalization feature is like a name tag on your ThinkPad. Your name, contact address, or phone number can be displayed on the screen when the system is turned on. This helps in case the ThinkPad is misplaced. The personal data is stored in the system's nonvolatile memory and is displayed with a password prompt.

Passwords
A power-on password (POP) protects the system from unauthorized use. If a POP is set, the password prompt appears:

Each time the system is turned on. When the system is returned to normal operation from suspend mode.

A supervisor password provides a higher level of security than the POP. The supervisor password protects the system functions from being used by unauthorized users and protects the hardware configuration from unauthorized modification. The supervisor password prompt appears when the hardware configuration is changed.

An HDD Password (HDP) protects HDD data from unauthorized users. Once HDP is set, data on the HDD cannot be accessed without the correct HDP. Because the HDP is stored in the HDD, the data remains protected even if the HDD is removed to another system. The HDP password prompt appears: Each time the system is turned on, when the system is returned to normal operation from suspend mode.

Security Lock
You can attach the Kensington** lock to the keyhole on the side of the computer.
(**) Trademark of Kensington Microwave Limited

User management is responsible for evaluation, selection and implementation of security features, administrative procedures and appropriate controls in application systems and communications facilities.
