Aptiva - System doesn't count up all memory at power-on?

It is normal for your system not to count up all of the memory. Upon boot up, your system is configured to copy BIOS (built-in machine coding) into memory or RAM. This is referred to as "shadow RAM" and aids in speeding up your system. "Shadow RAM" is not counted by PS/1 or Aptiva systems during boot-up. Hence, the amount of shadow RAM used is subtracted from the total amount of installed memory during the count-up. This "shadow RAM" can be turned Off on some systems, but it is usually beneficial to keep the current configuration where it is turned On. Some systems use 192KB for shadow RAM while others use 384KB. Systems with 4MB or 8MB of total RAM preinstalled will count up to 3712KB or 7808, while systems with 2MB preinstalled will report having 1920KB. Systems with 16MB pre-installed will count up to 16000.
