Achiever 2000/5000 - Re-installing the original software on models 2332-CDE and 5332-CDE

Question:
How do I reload the original software in the Ambra 5332CDE or the 2332CDE?

Answer:
Follow the steps below.

*** ATTENTION ***
If you follow the steps below, you will lose all your data and program files. The hard drive will no longer contain any personal information. If you have important files you wish to keep, please save them before going any further.

For the operation you will need:

The Windows 95 start-up disk
The Windows 95 CD
The Windows 95 Certificate of Authenticity
The SUPER SOUND32 install disk
The ASPEN 33 disks 1,2 and 3
The SIS Multimedia IDE CD

For Windows 95:

1. Insert the Windows 95 start-up disk and then start the computer.
3. When at the A:\ prompt insert the Windows 95 CD.
5. Type the word "FDISK" and press Enter.
7. Choose option 3 and press Enter.
9. Choose option 1, then press Enter.
11. When you see the warning just press the Enter key.
13. It will then ask you for the volume label, it should be written under where it says VOLUME LABEL.
15. Enter the volume label and then press Enter.
17. When it asks you if you are sure, press Y and then press Enter.
19. Press the Escape key (Esc) to continue.
21. Choose option 1 and press Enter.
23. From the second menu choose option 1 and then press Enter.
25. When it asks you if you wish to use the maximum available space answer YES and press Enter.
27. Restart the computer.
29. At the A:\ prompt type format c: and press Enter.
31. When asked for a volume label just press Enter.
33. Then at the A:\ prompt type D: and press Enter.
35. At the D:\ prompt type SETUP and press Enter.
37. Then press the Enter key to continue.
39. At this point the mouse will work, you can then click on continue.
41. Click on YES to accept the software agreement.
43. Click on NEXT to start collecting information about the hardware installed in your computer.
45. Click on NEXT to install Windows 95 into the default directory.
47. Click on NEXT for a typical installation.
49. Enter the software registration number found on the cover page of your Windows 95 guide.
51. Then click on NEXT.
53. Enter your name and company (company optional), then click on NEXT.
55. Click on NEXT, windows will then analyze your computer for the installed options.
57. Click NEXT to install the most common components.
59. Click on NO I DO NOT WANT A START-UP DISK, then click on NEXT.
61. Click on NEXT to start copying the files to your hard drive.
63. Remove the start-up disk from the A:\ drive.
65. Click on FINISH to restart the computer.
67. Click on OK when prompted to insert the Windows 95 CD.
69. Click on CANCEL to continue.
71. Click on the down arrow in the date and time properties to select the appropriate time zone.
73. Click on CLOSE , then click on NEXT.
75. Click on CANCEL in the ADD PRINTER WIZARD. You will install your printer with the specific disks it came with.
77. Click on OK to restart the computer.

Device Settings:

1. Click on START/SETTINGS/CONTROL PANEL and open the SYSTEM icon.
3. Now click on the DEVICE MANAGER tab.
5. Remove all the installed devices under SOUND VIDEO AND GAME CONTROLLERS by highlighting them and clicking the Remove button.
7. You will also have 2 mice detected, first remove the one with the exclamation mark, your mouse will then freeze.
9. You must then press the down arrow key and highlight STANDARD PS/2 PORT MOUSE.
11. Now, press the TAB key until you highlight REMOVE, then press ENTER, then ENTER again. The mice will now be removed.
13. You need to restart the system by pressing CTRL and ESC, highlight SHUTDOWN and press ENTER, select RESTART THE COMPUTER and press ENTER.
15. When windows restarts it will find and install the mouse properly, you can then restart the system. This time when windows restarts you will get a window that prompt's you to install the SUPER SOUND32 install disk.
17. Insert the disk and then click OK, then make sure that windows copies from the floppy and click OK.
19. You will now get a window that asks you for the Mwave disk, you insert the ASPEN 33 disk 1 and click OK. Make sure that the A drive is selected and click OK. Install the Mwave software in the MWW directory and click OK. Install will prompt you for disks 2 and 3. At the end it will ask you to remove the disks, do so and click OK. Windows will ask if you want to restart, click YES.
21. When windows reboots your modem and sound card will be installed and you should get a box that says that the Mwave install is complete.
23. Now to get sound in DOS, you restart the computer in MS-DOS mode. Then insert the SUPER SOUND32 disk and type A:INSTALL, then press ENTER. The installation is a DEFAULT install so just press ENTER to answer all the questions. Just make sure that when the install asks you which cdrom you have you must answer NONE.
25. When windows restarts you click YES to create the audio application group and then restart the system.
27. When you restart you restart you will get 2 errors, for the first one click on OK and on the second one you click on IGNORE, when in windows restart the system and your done.

SIS 5596 Video Drivers:

1. Insert the SIS Multimedia IDE CD-ROM.
3. In Windows, right click on the desktop.
5. Go to properties, then click on SETTINGS, and ADVANCED DISPLAY PROPERTIES.
7. Next to adapter type click on CHANGE.
9. Under Select Device, click on HAVE DISK, then click on BROWSE.
11. Select the CD-ROM drive.
13. Then go to the MM folder, then the WIN95 folder.
15. There should be a file highlighted on the left.
17. Then click on OK, then OK again.
19. The SIS driver should be highlighted.
21. Click on OK.
23. Windows will then copy the files to the hard drive.
25. When done click on CLOSE, then click APPLY.
27. Click on YES to restart the computer and the video is installed.
29. When back in windows, go to MY COMPUTER, then click on the CD-ROM icon.
31. Double click on the MM folder, then on WIN95 and INSTALL and SETUP.
33. From the resulting Window, click OK.
35. Windows will then copy certain files onto the hard drive.
37. After the install is complete , click on RESTART NOW.
