TP 1400 - Considerations for Windows 98
Applicable to: World-Wide
Below is a list of considerations for running Windows 98 on your ThinkPad 1400
- The TrackPoint IV is automatically disabled when an external mouse is attached.
- The Play button needs to be pressed twice after a music CD has been played for it to play again.
- RediSafe is not supported.
- System will not enter standby or hibernation mode while playing an audio CD using the YStation program. To enter standby or hibernation mode, stop the audio CD playback.
- When running in 256 color mode, after pressing the Next button during the YStation setup process the dialog box comes up in red. To correct this symptom, run in a higher color mode.
- AT commands fail to run in Hyperterminal after resuming from standby mode. To correct this symptom, close Hyperterminal and then restart it.
- DMA support for the CD-ROM is not supported.
- When running in VGA or SVGA mode on the LCD display, a black margin appears in the bottom right corner of the screen. To correct this symptom, enable screen expansion mode.
- Some PC cards that work on Windows 95 may not be fully functional when operating under Windows 98. For the latest status access the IBM ThinkPad Web Site at: http://www.pc.ibm.com/thinkpad
- The Panasonic Sound Card drivers cannot be installed under Windows 98.
- The IBM PCMCIA SCSI Card drivers fail to install under Windows 98.
- The Sony ZV Digital Camera fails after resuming from suspend or hibernation mode.
- The following modem and combo PC Cards will send but not receive faxes:
- 3Com CFEN566
- Xircom CFEN56-100
- IBM 56K Modem (PN 02K4196)
- Xircom NetWave card cannot connect to the network.
- Xircom CEM56-100 combo card causes the system to hang at the System Shutdown screen.
- The IBM GSM V.34/56K modem causes the system to hang after performing the following procedure:
- Connect to a server using the PC Card modem.
- Enter suspend, standby or hibernation mode.
- Resume the computer from suspend, standby or hibernation.
- Many Flash PC Cards will not function under Windows 98.
- The following PC Card drivers are not recognized properly even after a complete installation of the drivers:
- FujiFilm R17002
- Sony TV Tuner
- Logitech PageScan USB device fails after resuming from suspend or hibernation mode.
- 3Com EtherLink + 33.6 Modem PC Card will not allow the system to enter standby or hibernation mode.
- Diagnostics for the IBM 33.6 Data/Fax Modem fails after resuming from hibernation mode.
- A noise will be heard after inserting a PC Card before the initialization beep of the PC Card.
- System will hang if playing back multimedia file using the applications bundled with the RealMagic PC Card.
- Modem portion of the Xircom Ethernet + Modem PC Card does not work.
- ApexData MPEG PC Card cannot playback video files after installation.
- OsiTech 28.8/14.4 PC Card modem fails using the drivers provided with the card.
- A fatal error occurs or the system will automatically reboot when the DE-660 PC Card is inserted while the system is hibernated and then attempt to resume the system from hibernation mode. Do not remove or install PC Cards while the system is hibernated.
