If you are very familiar with SCSI, hardware, and the installation process, continue with '3.0 Quick Installation Instructions for Experienced Users'. If not, continue with '4.0 Detailed Installation Instructions'.

3.0 Quick Installation Instructions for Experienced Users
1. Set the jumpers on the hard disk drive to SCSI ID 0. If the SCSI cable has an active terminator attached, make sure the termination is NOT enabled on any drives on the SCSI cable.

2. If any ISA devices are installed (or will be installed) that need IRQs (or other system resources such as I/O ports or memory) reserved, go into the BIOS settings and choose 'Plug and Play' and then the desired resource type you wish to reserve. Change the desired resource from 'Plug and Play' to 'ISA Legacy'.

3. Install DOS remembering to use a DOS partition smaller than 2 GB.

4. Install the IDE CD-ROM device driver from the 'IBM Netfinity 3000 IDE CD-ROM support package diskette, v1.47' (or later).

5. Install the updated SCSI device driver into new directory C:\SERVER.312 from the 'Adaptec 7800 Family Manager' diskette.

6. Install NetWare from the NetWare 3.12 diskette without specifying a LAN adapter, add the 3.2 upgrade, restart (reboot) and add the ODI331 LAN driver updates.

7. Use the Ethernet device drivers that are shipped with the server for the integrated Ethernet 10/100 controller. Use 'IBM 10/100 EtherJet PCI Adapter Disk, v1.47' (or later).

4.0 Detailed Installation Instructions
This section provides complete instructions for Novell NetWare installation.

4.1 Setting Up the Hardware
1. Locate the key lock on the rear of the server and, if necessary, unlock the side access panel. Pull out on the cover release tab in the middle of the right side panel and push the panel forward.

2. For the initial installation, remove all other adapters and devices that are not required to get the base operating system installed. (For example, if installing multiple network adapters, only install one at this time. If a tape drive or external SCSI devices will be used, just disconnect them temporarily.) After the operating system is running without errors, add these devices one at a time. This procedure simplifies the installation process.

NOTES:
- If you plan to use an external DASD enclosure, use the documentation that accompanied the external enclosure for proper setup; then, continue with '4.2 Setting Up the BIOS'.

- If you purchased a system with a hard disk drive already installed, continue with '4.2 Setting Up the BIOS'

3. With a flat-blade screwdriver, remove the screw on the center cross-member nearest the rear of the machine that fastens the lower drive assembly to the system unit. Remove the entire assembly from the server by pulling it out of the system.

4. The startup hard disk drive should be set to SCSI ID 0 (this is the default; no jumpers on the ID pins signifies ID 0). Refer to the hard disk drive documentation for more information on setting the SCSI ID and termination.

NOTE: The last drive connected to the internal SCSI controller must be terminated or an actively terminated SCSI Cable must be used.

5. Insert the startup hard disk drive into the bottom bay of the drive assembly circuit-side down and SCSI connector facing the screw slot. Use the screw kit supplied with the hard disk drive to mount it to the assembly.

6. Reinsert the drive assembly into the server by reversing the removal instructions from step 4.

7. Attach the last available connector (farthest from the controller) of the SCSI cable to the startup hard disk drive. Attach an available internal power connector to the SCSI hard disk drive.

8. Verify that the IDE cable runs from the integrated IDE controller to the CD-ROM drive located in the upper drive bay.

9. Reinstall the side panel.

4.2 Setting Up the BIOS
NOTE: This procedure assumes your machine is starting from the default settings (which can be selected from the 'Configuration/Setup' main menu).

1. Power-on the server and press F1 when the IBM logo is on the screen to enter 'Configuration/Setup'.

2. When the 'Configuration/Setup Utility' menu appears, move the highlighted selection to 'Load Default Settings' and press Enter. Press Enter again to return to the 'Configuration/Setup Utility' menu.

3. Verify that you are at the latest level of BIOS by checking the IBM Web/FTP/BBS site. The latest at this time is NVJT05A. You can determine the version of BIOS running on your system by highlighting the menu option 'Product Data' and pressing Enter. The 'Flash EEPROM Revision Level' field contains the BIOS version. The numbers in position 5, 6, and 7 of the level are the current BIOS level (for example, NVJT05AUS is BIOS level 05A, US English). If you determine that your BIOS does not need to be updated, continue with step 6.

4. If your BIOS needs to be updated, download the appropriate image and build the diskette image by running the .EXE file. Answer 'Y' on the last page of the licensing agreement. The current diskette image is 24L8006.EXE and is labeled 'IBM Netfinity 3000 Flash BIOS Update Diskette, v1.05'.

5. Boot with the BIOS diskette in the system and answer the questions appropriately. After the BIOS update is complete, you might receive a '162 Configuration has changed' error on startup (boot). Ignore this message. Setup will start and you can continue with step 6.

NOTE: If you do not see the '162 Configuration has changed' message at startup (boot) time, you will need to press F1 when the IBM logo is on the screen to enter Setup.

6. Move the highlighted selection to 'Devices and I/O Ports' and press Enter.

7. Move the highlighted selection to 'Ethernet Setup' and press Enter.

8. Move the highlighted selection to 'Network Boot' and change the value of 'DHCP' to 'Disabled'.
