IBM IntelliStation/IBM PC - No sound after installing Crystal Audio in Windows 98

SYMPTOM:
After installing Crystal Audio device drivers under Windows 98 and selecting "Yes" to allow the installation program to re-start Windows, no audio sounds are heard.

PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:
This tip applies to all IBM Commercial Desktop and IntelliStation systems equipped with integrated Crystal Audio and installed with Windows 98.

The no sound error condition may be seen when installing Crystal Audio for the first time, reinstalling, or upgrading Crystal Audio in an existing installation of Windows 98.

FIX:
After installing, reinstalling, or upgrading Crystal Audio under Windows 98, the system must be cold booted (powered off and back on) in order to successfully initialize the Crystal Audio device drivers.
