Aptiva - International Compatibility of DVD Media
Applicable to: World-Wide
Situation:
A DVD disk bought in a one country does not work when it is brought to another country.
Solution:
None.
Explanation:
DVD disks are encoded according to the area for which they are marketed. Taking a DVD encoded for one area to another area may not work due to differences in encoding. Refer to the map for the different regions of the world:
From this map, you can see that a DVD taken from Canada to the United States should work. A DVD from Mexico may not work in the United States, though.
Always check for the region symbol on your DVD. A region one symbol looks like this:
Other regions have a similar symbol with a different number. Your Aptiva will take only DVDs for the region your Aptiva was intended for.
