Clustering - Adding drives to an existing Fibre Controller setup
Applicable to: World-Wide
If you suspect that the drives have been in a previous Fibre Controller (3526) configuration, DO NOT add the drives with the system powered off. When the system boots, the RAID Controller will search for 3 consistent configurations and may choose the configuration located on the newly installed drives. The best way to add additional drives is with the system up and running. If you are adding an EXP15, bring the system down, add the empty EXP15, power on the system (the RAID Controller will configure itself correctly), then add the additional hot swap drives to the EXP15. (configure drives)
The RAID configuration is stored in the controllers and hard drives (40meg partition). When the controller initializes it looks for 3 valid configurations. 40 meg partitions on hard drives are used for storing configuration, as well as providing a scratch pad when performing operations such as changing RAID level.
