Aptiva - 2144/2159/2168/2176 No dialtone error in CompuServe

Question:
I am trying to dial CompuServe with my Aptiva (Mwave modem) preloaded with Windows 95 but I cannot get a dialtone (i.e. receive a no dialtone error). How can I correct this?

Answer:
If you cannot get your Mwave to produce a dial tone in CompuServe, please try the following steps.

1. Click on "START" and choose "PROGRAMS", then "APTIVA PRODUCTIVITY" and then select "IBM INFORMATION SUPERHIGHWAY".
2. Click on "COMPUSERVE".
3. Click on "CONTINUE".
4. At top of the window click on "SPECIAL" and select "SESSION SETTINGS".
5. Click on the "MODEM" button.
6. In the box labeled Initialize insert X3 between D2 and ^M. This line should now read ATS0=0Q0V1&C1&D2X3^M.
7. Click "OK" twice. Close CompuServe and then restart it.
