(Installation considerations from Announcement Letter 196-134)
Internal Hot-Swap Expansion Considerations for Non-Array Models: When adding second or third banks of hot-swap hard disk drives, it is necessary to install the PC Server Power Supply Upgrade (70G9739) in addition to the PC Server Hot-Swap Backplane III (76H2670) and SCSI PCI Card to Backplane Fast/Wide Cable (94G3988) options. Also, an appropriate SCSI adapter, such as the PC Server SCSI-2 Fast/Wide PCI Adapter II (94G4673), is required for attachment of the backplane.
Internal Hot-Swap Expansion Considerations for Array Models: Array models support up to 12 SCSI-2 hot-swap hard drives per channel. When adding a second hot-swap backplane, a PC Server Power Supply Upgrade (70G9739) is required in addition to the PC Server Hot-Swap Backplane III (76H2670) and SCSI PCI Card to Backplane Fast/Wide Cable (94G3988). One end of the SCSI-2 PCI Card to Backplane Fast/Wide Cable is connected to one of the remaining two internal connectors on the PC ServeRAID SCSI Adapter, while the other end is connected to the hot-swap backplane. If installing a third PC Server Hot-Swap Backplane III, a Backplane-to-Backplane Cable (94G4070) can be used to daisy chain from the second backplane. This eliminates the need to use a second SCSI PCI Card to Backplane Fast/Wide Cable. However, for performance considerations, the third backplane can be cabled directly to the PC ServeRAID SCSI Adapter through the use of SCSI PCI Card to Backplane Fast/Wide Cable. Daisy chaining more than two backplanes per connector/RAID channel is not supported.
