Aptiva - 2140/2142 Diagnostics - Memory

Note: SDRAM DIMM memory for Type 2140 and Type 2142 is automatically detected and configured. If memory is added, the system will use the added memory. However, if memory is removed or a DIMM becomes defective a POST error 164 might occur. Maximum system memory for Type 2140 and Type 2142 is 384 MB.

û Insert the Diagnostics and Utilities CD into the CD/DVD-ROM Drive.
û Power-off the system unit.
û Ensure all DIMMs are seated correctly.
û Power-on the system unit.
û Note any messages, error codes, or symptoms.

002 - DID YOU RECEIVE A 201 or 203 POST ERROR? (Yes - Go to Step 005, No - Go to Step 003)

003 - DID YOU RECEIVE A 129 ERROR? (Yes - Go to Step 004, No - Go to Step 006)

û Replace the system board.

û Follow the screen instructions to run the Memory tests.
û If you cannot run the memory test or the test does not find a problem, use the following procedure to find the failure.
û Replace each DIMM, one at a time, with a known-good DIMM of the same size and type.
û If the problem goes away, the last DIMM replaced is defective. If all DIMM's have been replaced and the problem remains, replace the system board.

û Follow the screen instructions to run the Memory tests.

007 - DID THE MEMORY TESTS COMPLETE WITHOUT AN ERROR? (Yes - Go to Step 009, No - Go to Step 008)

û Replace each DIMM, one at a time, with a known-good DIMM of the same size and type.
û If the problem goes away, the last DIMM replaced is defective. If all DIMMs have been replaced and the problem remains, replace the system board.

û The system memory is now functioning correctly. If you suspect an intermittent problem, run the Memory and System board tests multiple times.
