56K PC Card Modem/Cellular Capable - Cellular Performance Problems
Applicable to: World-Wide
Problem:
When using a Motorola MicroTac Lite cellular phone with a ThinkPad 770 laptop system, the cellular portion of the IBM 56K PC Card Modem does not function correctly. When trying to use any program to dial out (dial up networking, hyperterminal, etc.) the phone will automatically power off and will not power back on.
Troubleshooting:
- Using the correct cable (USR/3Com).
- Modem works fine over land-line so modem in installed correctly.
- When placing the cable into the phone and the pc card, it beeps so you know it is recognizing the connection.
Resolution:
This modem should automatically start the correct cellular protocols upon detection of a cellular cable being inserted. There is a revision to the modem firmware that has recently been released and is available at: ftp://ftp.infania.net/pccbbs/communications/56modwin.exe which successfully resolves the above issue.
