PS/1-Aptiva - Problem lining up text in columns in Microsoft Works

Using Spaces Between Columns:
Spaces can be used to align columns of text in Works for Windows, but you may run into difficulties.
Below is a list of the problems that may be encountered if you use spaces to align columns of text rather than tabs.
1. If you are using a font with variable width characters, you will not be able to align the columns exactly because the characters are all different widths. You must use tabs in this case to get the columns to align.
2. With fixed-width fonts, if you bold or italicize any of the characters (including spaces), the document view screen will not accurately display what will be printed, making it very difficult to align the columns correctly. The text will appear to take up more room that it actually does when printed.
To reliably align text in columns, set TAB stops in your document and TAB between the columns.
