Aptiva - Resetting the BIOS
Applicable to: World-Wide
Question:
I would like to restore my original BIOS (hardware settings) on my Aptiva computer. How can I do this?
Answer:
Note: This procedure will restore the hardware settings for any Aptiva to the factory settings. If you have customized your
hardware settings ensure that you have recorded the changes so that you can make them again if you need to. This will not
affect any software on your hard drive.
While the system is booting you will see a box in the upper right with many ~~~~~~ symbols in it. When you see this, press the "F1" key (top row of the keyboard) and the system will go into the Aptiva Configuration Utility. Now, press "F5" and the system will load the factory defaults for hardware settings. Press "Esc" and choose "Save and Exit". The system will now restart with the factory BIOS settings.
Note: Performing a two mouse button reset (hold both mouse buttons down while re-powering the system and waiting for the system to beep) will also accomplish this, however, if you have a cordless mouse, the first procedure above using the keyboard must be used.
