Aptiva - 2163/2164 Considerations - Certain interlaced DVD content shows poor quality on Riva 128ZX
Applicable to: World-Wide
Description:
Certain interlaced DVD Content shows poor quality on RIVA 128 ZX
Models affected:
All with DVD
How to duplicate:
1. Play "Backdraft", or "Fargo"
2. Examine output for minor horizontal aliasing artifacts
Root cause:
Due to the lack of motion compensation on RIVA 128 ZX, the decoder only displays every other line of interlaced content. On DVDs that alternate between interlaced and non-interlaced sequences, this leads to minor shimmering effects at progressive-interlaced transitions. While most people do not notice this, it is not appropriate behavior.
Workaround:
An update to DVD Express will be provided via Update Connector to display progressive content in full resolution mode.
