TP General - Drivespace Reports Incorrect Size with FAT32 Drives

Applicable to: World-Wide

null

SYMPTOM:
When using Drivespace 3 to view the properties of a hard disk formatted FAT32, Drivespace may report the size of the drive as 2GB even when the drive is larger than 2GB. Also, when trying to compress the FAT32 drive, you may receive an error "Drive c cannot be compressed because it is a FAT32 drive. ID Number: DRVSPACE738."

CONFIGURATION:
Any machine with a hard drive greater than 2 GB formatted FAT32, including ThinkPad 600E and 770X preloads, running Windows 95 OSR2 or Windows 98.

SOLUTION:
Use Explorer to view the correct size of FAT32 drives over 2GB. Drivespace cannot be used to view or compress FAT32 drives because it was designed to work with the FAT12 and FAT16 file systems.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
See Microsoft's Knowledge Base article Q150579 on the Microsoft Web Site for further information.
