IBM IntelliStation M Pro (Type 6889, 6898) - No mass storage devices detected when booting from Windows NT 4.0 CD-ROM

Applicable to: World-Wide

SYMPTOM:
After booting the system from the supplied Windows NT 4.0 CD, the installation stops when Windows NT indicates that it did not detect any additional mass storage devices installed in the system (i.e the installed SCSI hard file).

PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:
This tip applies to IBM IntelliStation M Pro Series 6898 and 6889 systems equipped with an integrated Adaptec AIC-7895 SCSI controller.

The condition is seen when the supplied Windows NT 4.0 CD is used to install Windows NT on a new hard file, or to reinstall Windows NT 4.0 on a reformatted hard file.

FIX:
In these systems, Windows NT 4.0 must be installed using the Windows NT 4.0 installation diskettes together with the Adaptec 7800 Family Set drivers diskette.

The installation diskettes can be created from the supplied Windows NT 4.0 CD by entering the following command from the \I386 directory on the Windows NT 4.0 CD:

Under Windows 95/98: "winnt /ox" (without quotations)
Under Windows NT: "winnt32 /ox" (without quotations)

When prompted to search for additional mass storage devices, press <S> to choose the option at the bottom of the screen labeled, "S=Specify Additional Device."

Highlight <Other> in the box in the center of the screen and press <Enter>. Insert the Adaptec 7800 Family Set diskette in the A:\ drive and press <Enter> to follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.
