Aptiva - 2140/2142 Considerations - Adobe Photo Deluxe

Applicable to: World-Wide

Lower portion of screen cut of in 640x480.

Detail:
If you run Adobe Photo Deluxe in 640x480 the lower portion of the screen is cut off due to small screen size. 800x600 is the system default.

Answer / Workaround:
Change back to 800x600. This is the default setting.

Severity: 3
Preload(s): Both

Install with little disk space, no warning message displayed.

Detail:
If you install on drive C: when there is less than the required 30mb available, no message is displayed to ward you of this when using the "Typical Install" option. Using the "Custom" option, it will warn you that there is not enough space. When you click on 'next' after selecting 'typical', the installation program very briefly displays a message about searching for installed components, then just redisplays the same screen you were on. This cycles indefinitely. Using the 'custom' option, a proper message is displayed about not-enough-disk-space.

Answer / Workaround:
This only occurs if there is less than 30mb available on the hardfile and the user selects "Typical". The number of users effected should be very low. Deferred to next release.

Video trash when changing screen resolution.

Detail:
If you have an image open in Adobe Photo, then change the system Display Properties to a different resolution WITHOUT rebooting, the graphics are very distorted in Adobe.

Answer / Workaround:
If you change the resolution, you must reboot to have it take effect properly. Other applications will display this behavior also.

Severity: 3

Problems with reinstall in different location.

Detail:
If after installing Adobe Photo, you chose to Install it again, however, this time into another location, it installs an additional copy of the program without deleting old one. Having two copies on your machine produce some confusion. If while having two copies you chose to uninstall it, only the newer one will be removed, leaving a working older version on your machine, but showing the program as uninstalled.

Answer / Workaround:
This item is deferred until the next program.

Possible error during Photo Deluxe install.

Detail:
Install Photo Deluxe. One screen prompts for the serial number, which is on the CD label. Open the DVD drive to read the serial number, then close the drive. Click Next to continue to the next screen. A couple of screens later, an error is displayed "Unable to open file G:\install\archive1" and the install program closes.

Answer / Workaround:
The DVD drive tends to take several seconds longer to reset after inserting a CD than does the CDRom drive. In either case, after ejecting the CD to determine the serial number, you must wait until the 'BUSY' LED goes out before continuing.

Severity: 3

Tabs in "Guided Activities" not working.

Detail:
When going through the "Guided Activities", you must click on the tabs in sequential order.

Answer / Workaround:
Adobe designed the "Guided Activity" section as such. The intent was to "GUIDE" the customer throught the steps, and not allow them to work out of 'proper order'.

Severity: 4
Preload(s): Both

Not all files removed when uninstalled.

Detail:
After Uninstall Adobe intentionally will not remove any files which the customer created during use.

Answer / Workaround:
This is working as designed. The user can delete the directory or files manually.

Adobe folder will not be removed from the Start menu after Uninstall.

Detail:
If the user Reinstalls Adobe without first Uninstalling, then the Adobe folder will not be removed from the Start menu.

Answer / Workaround:
The customer can manually remove the icon from the StartMenu by Right clicking on the Task Bar, select "StartMenu Program" and remove the icon for Adobe. This issue is deferred to the next release.

Detail:

Steps to Recreate: 1. Start/Programs/Adobe/PhotoDeluxe1.1/Adobe PhotoDeluxe 1.1., 2. Press F1 to open help., 3. Press 'F' or 'alt + f'., 'Find' opens after either keystroke.

Answer / Workaround:

Distorted graphics with thumbnails in Adobe Photo Deluxe.

Detail:
The graphics of the thumbnail pictures used in Adobe Photo Deluxe are distorted.

Answer / Workaround:
The issue results from a StretchBLT, which is not fully implemented in the Trident driver, when StrecthBLT is called for, the driver simply sends the call back through the Windows DIBENGINE, which is a typical way to handle this function (ie. Matrox,S3,Cirrus and the SVGA driver in W95). This problem does not occur with the ATI graphics (Spear planar). Currently, there are no workarounds for this issue.
