Aptiva - How do you FORMAT a diskette for use in DOSSHELL?

The option "Format a diskette for use" is a quick option for those who are not familiar with the DOS commands for formatting a diskette from the DOS command prompt. This option will format a diskette so information can be stored on it later. (Remember, when formatting previously used diskettes, you will loose all information on the diskette!)
Once you select the "Format a diskette..." option, you have four formatting options displayed. You can format either 3.5" or 5.25" diskettes, high or low capacity. (For detailed information on these options, highlight each option and press the [F1] key.) This menu simplifies the formatting process by allowing you to easily select the type of diskette you have entered into your drive. After making your selection, DOS will prompt you to "insert a diskette into the drive and press any key to continue". When the format is complete, DOS will prompt you to type in a volume label. If you do not need a volume label on the diskette, you can press [Enter] to bypass this step. Your diskette is now ready to be used for storing data!
