Aptiva - What is the 1 MB non-DOS partition on my hard drive?
Applicable to: World-Wide
Question:
What is the 1 MB non-DOS partition on the Aptiva fixed disk used for?
Answer:
The 1 MB non-DOS partition contains all the messages for the Configuration Utility (BIOS SETUP). If this partition is
deleted, then the messages are retrieved from ROM (BIOS EPROM/EEPROM). However, the ROM only contains abbreviated messages, i.e. all the main messages are there, but some of the help text was shortened/removed to save space. The non-DOS partition on the hard drive contains the translated messages for the country of sale, but the ROM itself on these systems contains only US-English messages.
The Recovery process will put the messages in the appropriate place if:
1. The hard disk is brand new and has not been setup yet.
2. The hard disk has been previously used and all partitions are deleted using FDISK.
