Question:
How do I correct memory problems with third party DOS games on my Aptiva 2144 or 2168?

Answer:
You can use this information to help resolve:
A. Resolving memory issues on your Aptiva.
B. Not enough conventional memory to play DOS games.
C. DOS games are freezing while playing them.

You can boot your Aptiva from a special boot diskette that will provide the maximum amount of memory for your machine to
run DOS games.

You will need to download the file BLUEBOOT.EXE =>.
The BLUEBOOT.EXE program will build a suitable boot diskette for your Aptiva or if your system was preloaded with Windows 95 it will create a Games Boot icon on the desktop.

Once you have downloaded this file:

1. Ensure you are at a DOS prompt.
2. Get a blank formatted diskette and insert it in A Drive.
3. Type C:\DIRNAME\BLUEBOOT.EXE (Where DIRNAME is the name of the directory where you stored your downloaded BLUEBOOT.EXE file).
4. Read the on screen instructions and press "ENTER".
5. This will create an install diskette from the BLUEBOOT.EXE program.
6. Label this diskette BLUEBOOT INSTALL.
7. Now from a DOS prompt type A:\INSTALL.BAT and press Enter.
8. This will copy some small files to your hard drive and then run the BLUEBOOT install.

For Aptivas preloaded with Windows 95 (Original 28.8 Kbps Mwave drivers only *1*)
(BLUEBOOT was not designed to work with Aptiva's that have been upgraded to Windows 95 from Windows 3.1/DOS. If you do run it on such a system, you do so at your own discretion)

9. Read the first help screen and press "ENTER". Read the second screen and press "ENTER" to continue.
10. Choose option 2 to create a new IBM Aptiva Game Boot Prompt icon on your desktop.
11. When you want to run a game, double-click on the newly created icon and the system will reboot to DOS mode and present you with a menu of startup options.
12. Select the memory option necessary for your game and then install/run the game.
13. When you are finished type EXIT and press "Enter" to return to Windows 95.

For Aptivas preloaded with DOS/Windows 3.1 and DOS/OS/2 Warp (Original 28.8 Mwave drivers only *1*)

9. Read the first help screen and press the letter C to continue.
10. Read the second help screen and press "ENTER".
11. Choose option 2 to create a Games Boot Disk (You can insert a new blank 3.5" diskette at this stage).
12. The disk will be formatted and the boot disk will be created.
13. Reboot with your new BOOTDISK in Drive A:.
14. You will be prompted with a menu of 8 choices.
15. Choose the option appropriate to the memory requirements for the game.

NOTE: In order to enable SOUNDBLASTER emulation you will need to type LH MWAUDIO ON before starting your game NOTE: You may need to re-install or re-setup the game after using the BLUEBOOT utility to make sure the SOUNDBLASTER compatibility is recognized correctly
*1* - The BLUEBOOT program may not work if you have upgraded to newer Mwave 33.6 Kbps drivers.
