IBM PC300PL (6862, 6892) - Windows for Workgroups hangs at user logon

SYMPTOM:
When starting Windows for Workgroups version 3.11, the system may stop responding (hang) at the password dialog box ("Enter User Name and Password"), or hang in Program Manager if the password has been set to null (none) during Windows setup.

PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:
This tip applies, but is not limited to, IBM PC300PL Series 6862 and 6892 systems where DOS and Windows for Workgroups has been installed as the operating system.

FIX:
Download and install the updated virtual keyboard driver, VKDA.386, from the Microsoft Knowledge Base at the following Internet URL:

www.microsoft.com/support
