Description
The System Program Service Diskette given here can update the system program stored in the ThinkPad to fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions.

The supported models are as follows:
- ThinkPad 380, 380D, 380E, 380ED
- ThinkPad 385D, 385E D

NOTE: Disk release date now matches the date shown in BIOS.
Actual release date for this file is April 27, 1999.

Summary of Changes
v1.03 - I1ET36WW
- (New) Support for ThinkPad 380E, 380ED and 385ED.
- (New) Support for 5 Giga Byte hard disk drive.
- (Fix) (DSTN model under Japanese Windows 95 environment only) When an MS-DOS window is opened and switched to a full screen in DBCS mode, the screen becomes blank, unreadable or distorted.
- (Fix) When the system enters standby mode and you press the power switch, the system will be powered off without warning beeps (The system is not to be powered off in standby mode).
- (Fix) The system may be powered off when RediSafe option is enabled and the system enters the suspend mode.
- (Fix) (Japan only) When an external IBM CD-400/400S CD-ROM drive is attached to the system, the Alt+Ctrl+Del key operation (to reboot the system) doesn't work.
- (Fix) The cursor doesn't work intermittently when the system resumes normal operation from suspend mode.
- (Fix) The screen is not turned on intermittently by pressing any key or using any pointing device when "Resume on timer" or "Resume on incoming call" option is enabled and the system resumes normal operation from suspend mode.
- (Fix) 00197 error code appears on the confirmation panel of "Cancel to resume normal operation from hibernation mode".
- (Fix) The screen is distorted intermittently when the system resumes normal operation from suspend mode.
- (Fix) The system hangs intermittently when "Resume on timer" option is enabled and the system resumes normal operation from suspend mode.
- (Fix) Garbage screen appears when the system goes into hibernation mode from suspend mode.
- (Fix) When the system is powered with AC power and is using PC Card(s), the system may not be able to be turned on.
- (Fix) (Test menu in Easy-Setup) Looptest can't be stopped intermittently by pressing and holding Ctrl key then pressing Pause key.
- (Fix) (Test menu in Easy-Setup) (DSTN model only) Some lines at the bottom of "Solid & Striped & Diagonal Rectangles in mode 102h 800x600x16" test pattern are not displayed.
- (Fix) (Test menu in Easy-Setup) 00903 error occurs intermittently while testing "PARALLEL 3" in the parallel port diagnostic program.
- (Fix) System intermittently hangs while operating on battery power.

- (New) Conforming to a new revision of video chip.
- (Fix) Application program may not work correctly when ansi.sys driver is loaded under the DOS environment.
- (Fix) Audio sounds strangely when "Hibernate when battery becomes low" option is enabled and the system goes into hibernation mode, then it is turned on.

- (Fix) (Under Windows 3.1x) The screen becomes blank when "Screen Expansion" option is enabled and the screen resolution is 800 by 600 or higher.
- (Fix) Wrong color is intermittently displayed on the screen when the system resumes normal operation from standby mode. (The system with a new revision of video chip only.)
- (Fix) (Test menu in Easy-Setup) Yellow color bars are not displayed on display test patterns in the advanced diagnostic program. (The system with a new revision of video chip only.)

- (Fix) If you touch keyboard right after entering power on password, Key may not be entered.

- (Fix) After creating a hibernation file on a OS/2 HPFS drive, the system will hang.

Updating the System Program
Notes: - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the system program.
- If your computer is attached to any kinds of Port Replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding.

1. Print these instructions or display on another computer.
2. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer.
3. Insert the System Program Service Diskette into the diskette drive and turn on the computer.
4. Select "Read this first..." from the menu and carefully read the information that appears.
5. Press the Esc key to return to the menu.
6. Select "Update system program" and follow the instruction on the screen.

Warning: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. IF YOU TURN OFF OR SUSPEND THE COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED.

After the update has been completed, run the diagnostics to make sure that the computer runs with no errors:

7. Make sure the System Program Service Diskette is removed from the diskette drive, then turn off the computer.
8. Press and hold the F1 key, then turn on the computer. Hold the F1 key until the Easy-Setup menu appears.
9. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password.
10. Select Test, then select Start to run all the basic tests. Various test patterns will appear on the screen. An OK will appear for each device that passes the test.
11. Verify that OK appears for all of the devices tested.
12. Press the Esc key to exit Test and turn off the computer.

Each version of the System Program Service Diskette contains the following system program (BIOS). The BIOS Version and the date can be viewed by invoking Easy-Setup and selecting Config followed by System Board.
