Aptiva - Why is the printer slow under OS/2 Warp?
Applicable to: World-Wide
Symptom:
The IBM NULL printer driver will work with most any printer, but it is very slow on anything other than the original IBM Graphics printer ( produced back in 1981). Installing the correct printer driver not only adds function, but makes the printer print faster too.
OS/2 Warp appears to slow down the processor while data prints. This is because the OS/2 Warp default is to poll the printer to see if it is still busy, rather than using interrupts.
Resolution:
The fix is to add /IRQ to the BASEDEV=PRINT01.SYS statement in the CONFIG.SYS file.
