Aptiva - Subwoofer Power Cable Failures
Applicable to: Canada, United States
Abstract:
Early testing has shown that some Stealth 2 machines which ship with a subwoofer may show immediate failures in the power cable. These failures cause the system to appear unusable or prevent the subwoofer from functioning.
Symptoms:
1) The customer's system will not power up while the subwoofer is plugged in. This is caused by a cable which is either shorted or was produced with the incorrect polarity.
2) A customer's machine will unexpectedly power down intermittently. This will happen without the normal Rapid Resume screens appearing. It will probably occur when the subwoofer power cable is jostled or moved. This is caused by an intermittent short in the subwoofer power cable.
3) The subwoofer will not power up. The cable is an open circuit and not conducting current to the subwoofer. This is caused by a break in the conductor in the cable. In a very small number of instances, this may be due to a faulty power switch in t he subwoofer.
Solution:
The solution for all of the above symptoms is to replace the power cable (FRU# 76H6975) connecting the subwoofer to the system unit. For all of the above symptoms, the customer should be asked to disconnect the power cable from the rear of the system tower. This will allow the customer to use their system while awaiting a replacement power cable.
For the small number of failures where the power switch is at fault, replace the subwoofer (FRU# 76H6974)
