Aptiva - How to change virtual memory settings for Windows 95 or 98

Applicable to: World-Wide

Windows 95 or 98 has the ability to use part of the hard drive on your system as extra memory. This is known as virtual memory, and provides Windows 95 or 98 with additional memory space if it becomes necessary. The virtual memory file that Windows 95 or 98 creates on the hard drive is known as a swapfile.
To check or adjust the virtual memory settings in Windows 95 or 98 , do the following:

1. Right-click with your mouse on the My Computer icon on your Windows 95 or 98 Desktop.

2. Choose Properties from the menu that appears.

3. Click on the Performance tab.

4. To view or change the Virtual Memory settings, click on the Virtual Memory button.

By default, Windows 95 or 98 manages the virtual memory. If you wish to make any changes, click next to "Let me specify my own virtual memory settings" . You can then specify which hard drive partition you want Windows 95 or 98 to place the swapfile on, as well as the maximum and minimum sizes of the swapfile.
