Abstract:
DBCS corruption with OS/2 WARP Server SMP 4.0J

SYMPTOM:
During the bootup sequence of Warp Server SMP 4.0J the Adaptec device driver for the onboard AIC7895 SCSI controller will load and display header and copyright information. The characters of this message and subsequent driver messages may display as corrupt characters.

PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:
- The system is one of the following Netfinity servers:

a Netfinity 3500 server, Type 8644, any model.

a Netfinity 5000 server, Type 8659, any model.

- The system is configured with OS/2 WARP Server SMP 4.0 (Japanese NLS).

- The Adaptec SCSI driver AIC7870.ADD v2.11S3 (12/01/98) is being used.

FIX:
Verify that the above information applies and follow either of the following workaround solutions:

- Install Fixpak WX03006, LAN Server Fixpak IPJ8506, and single-PTF JR11815 from Fixpack CD of the ServerGuide.

- Edit entry in config.sys for Adaptec device driver and include the /Q switch to suppress messages during driver load.
