TP 770 - Hangs during Midi file playback

Applicable to: World-Wide

SYMPTOM:
Shortly after starting the playback of a midi file, the system hangs. This only occurs on battery power with the Windows 95 preload when "MIDI for ThinkPad WaveTable MidiSynth Device" is selected in Multimedia Properties as Midi output device.

Recovery from hang
When hang occurs the system will not power off by on/off switch. To power off system either press the Reset Button (to the left of the main on/off switch) or eject then reinsert the main battery. Now the system can be powered on. A message "Windows was not properly shutdown..." may be displayed. Press Enter and allow ScanDisk to run.

WORK AROUND:
There are 2 configuration choices for midi playback. For MIDI Playback choose "MIDI for FM Synthesis" or do not play MIDI files when on Battery power.

SOLUTION:
This has been corrected with the release of the 56K modem upgrade for the Advanced Communications Processor.
