TP 760,765 - Incorrectly built hard drives - 2.1GB

Applicable to: AP-N, AP-S, EMEA

SYMPTOM:
When inserting a 2.1GB HDD into a TP 760 or 765, the HDD is not recognised. When the HDD is used as a secondary HDD (with 2nd HDD adapter ) it works correctly.

CONFIGURATION:
Any ThinkPad 760 or 765 with an IBM 2.1 GB HDD installed.

SOLUTION:
If 02K0508 contains HDD with P/N 00K0383 then this part is classed as non conforming material and should be returned to stock as a field failure. Other HDD ASM P/N's are NOT affected.

Additional information on this problem is contained within CESAL FTS98069.

A number of HDD assemblies (identifiable from P/N 02K0508 on the label of FRU ASM P/N 82H8489) have been built incorrectly.

FRU P/No 82H8489 can be built from either of the following ASM BM'S :
a) P/N 82H8490
b) P/N 02K0508
c) P/N 05K9024

If FRU contains 02K0508 then two inspection steps are required:

1. If content within 02K0508 contains HDD P/N 73H7670 then this part is good

2. If content within 02K0508 contains HDD P/N 00K0383 then this should be rejected as non conforming material.
