TP 770X - Windows NT Recovery CD leaves a FAT32 D partition

SYMPTOM:
After running the Recovery CD, the second partition is formatted as FAT32, which is unreadable by Windows NT.

CONFIGURATION:
Any ThinkPad 770X with Windows NT preloaded.

SOLUTION:
The remedy is to reformat the partition into NTFS or FAT so that Windows NT can use the additional drive space.

First, delete the current D partition:
1. Start Disk Administrator.
2. Select the D:\ partition by left clicking on the partition.
3. Select Delete, and click Yes to deleting data.
4. If there is an additional 7 megabytes of freespace available, select the first available freespace area and right click. Pick Delete, this will create a
large contiguous freespace block.

To create a NTFS partition:
1. Right click the freespace partition and select Create. Click Yes to the warning. Accept the default partition size or adjust according to preferences. Click OK.
2. Right click Unformatted space and select Commit Changes Now, and click Yes.
3. Right click Unknown space and select Format., change the File System to NTFS and click Start, and click yes to the warning.
4. When the format is complete, close Disk Administrator and update Repair Disk.

To create FAT partitions:
1. Right click the freespace partition and select Create, Click Yes to the warning.
2. Change the Create partition size to 2047 MB.
3. Continue step 2 until all freespace is used.
4. Right click the Unformatted space and select Commit Changes Now, and click Yes.
5. Right click the Unknown space and select Format, and then click Start.
6. Continue step 5 until all partitions are formatted.
7. Close Disk Administrator and update Repair Disk.
