Aptiva - The SYS command
Applicable to: World-Wide
The SYS command transfers the operating system files, MSDOS.SYS, IO.SYS, and COMMAND.COM from the source drive to the target drive. The SYS command is used when installing DOS on a new diskette (to make a boot diskette) or hard drive. These system files are hidden and read-only. Therefore, the files are not listed by the standard DIR command. As a result, they cannot be copied in the conventional manner (i.e., using COPY or XCOPY). The SYS command must be used to transfer system files.
The SYS command is entered from the DOS command prompt. The syntax is:
SYS [drive1:][path] drive2:
[drive1:][path] = specifies the location of the system files. If you do not specify a path, DOS will automatically search the root directory on the current drive for these files.
drive2: = specifies the drive to which you want to transfer the system files to.
