PS/1 - Deleting files from a diskette
Applicable to: United States
There are two ways to delete a file from your diskette. The first way is to use the IBM DOS Shell in DOS 5.0.
Follow the steps below when using the IBM DOS Shell:
1. Start the IBM DOS Shell.
2. Place the diskette containing the file(s) to be deleted in the appropriate drive.
3. Select the appropriate drive icon from the upper left corner so that the diskette contents can be read.
4. From the Directory Tree listing on the left, select the directory containing the file(s) you want to delete.
5. Select the file(s) you want to delete by clicking on the filename listed on the right. To mark more than one file for deletion, press the CTRL key while clicking on the filename.
6. Once the file(s) are marked for deletion, press the DELETE key.
7. If you have the Confirmation on Deletion option turned on, then you will be prompted to verify each file deletion.
The second way to delete a file is through the DOS command prompt. To delete files this way, you must know the directory path and filename(s) in advance.
From the DOS command prompt, Follow the steps below:
1. Type the drive letter containing the diskette followed by a colon (i.e., A: or B:) and press [Enter].
2. Type the following command : CD\ to make sure that you are in the root directory and press [Enter].
3. Type the following command: DEL A:\PATH\FILENAME and press [Enter]. The "path" in the above command is the subdirectory in which the file is located. The "filename" is the full name and extension of the file. DOS will delete the file if the path and filename are correct.
