TP 380E/ED,385ED - system sometimes shuts down or fails to boot after installing new memory
Applicable to: World-Wide
SYMPTOM:
System intermittently fails to boot when turned on, or shuts down unexpectedly after Memory DIMM has been installed or replaced.
SOLUTION:
A very small number of 380E, 380ED and 385ED systems are sensitive to variation in Memory Chip timings. The system must be serviced to insure latest level planar board and DC/DC card are installed.
Note: This will be a very intermittent fail; many DIMM cards will not cause this problem. The system will not display any activity on LCD as power never comes up or is shut off completely. This is NOT related to any operating system or application fail that might cause the system to "HANG".
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
both DC-DC card and Planar must be replaced. In many case planar will already be at newer level.
