TP General - Panasonic PCMCIA CD-ROM drives

There have been a number of questions lately concerning configuring Panasonic PCMCIA CD-ROM drives on various Thinkpads. The following is some helpful information that may assist you in setting up the PCMCIA device. If you need further assistance you can contact Panasonic for support.
The Panasonic 4x PCMCIA CD-ROM drive model KXL-D740 should work fine on Thinkpads with the drivers that ship with the drive except for the 760e models (e,el,ed,eld).
To make the drive work on 760 enhanced models, you must obtain updated drivers from Panasonic. For DOS/Windows 3.1, Windows 95 and Windows NT the filename is 740TP760.EXE. For OS/2 the filename is TP760OS2.EXE The drivers are intended for the 760e machines only and will not work with other models.
The files are on the Panasonic BBS - 201-863-7845, the Panasonic Web Site - WWW.Panasonic.Com.
The following is a list of errors you will encounter if they are not using the latest drivers:
DOS/Windows 3.1..........................Not High Sierra Format
Windows 95................................Drive D is not accessible
Windows NT..............................One service failed during start-up, check the event Viewer --- failing device will be qlmini.sys
OS/2 Warp........................Drive or diskette is not formatted correctly.
On the Thinkpad 560, Panasonic recommends that the PCMCIA CD-ROM card be installed in the bottom slot. If it is installed in the top slot, signal noise between the PCMCIA controller and the card can cause the drive to perform unpredictably. As stated above, the drivers that ship with the drive should be used with the 560.
