TP 310E/ED,315E/ED - Power button does not appear to work

SYMPTOM:
The power button does not appear to work when trying to power down the computer.

CONFIGURATION:
Any ThinkPad 310E/ED or 315E/ED.

SOLUTION:
The SafeOFF program provides protection from accidental power off. If you accidentally press the power switch, a dialog box pops up for confirmation. To power off the computer with SafeOFF running, you must hold the power switch in for 3 to 5 seconds. If SafeOFF is not running, the computer will power off after a brief delay when the power switch is pressed.
