TP 355,360,370,750,755C/CS - Installing OS/2 Warp 3.0

Applicable to: World-Wide

Warp can be installed using the diskette version or the CD-ROM version. The installation procedures are the same for both methods for the first two disks; it only differs because the CD-ROM version contains all the other disks on CROM.

Installing Warp from CD-ROM

Note:
If using Warp Red Box (The version of Warp that does not come with Win/OS/2), install DOS and Windows on the hard drive prior to performing the Warp installation.

The CD-ROM version of Warp comes with two diskettes and a CD-ROM. This installation procedure can be done with the ThinkPad attached to IBM Dock I or Dock II with a CD-ROM drive.

1. Insert the install diskette in the diskette drive and reboot the machine. The install diskette is a bootable disk containing the OS/2 kernel and other device drivers. The installation program will ask for the OS/2 diskette 1 to be inserted into drive A.

2. Insert OS/2 diskette 1 in drive A. The appropriate CD-ROM drivers will be installed on the system such that the CD-ROM drive be usable.

3. A welcome screen will the greet the user and a choice of either an EASY or an ADVANCED installation. The easy installation will ask the minimum question to the user; the advanced installation should be chosen for more installation flexibility.

4. The installation drive selection screen will ask the user whether to accept the drive or specify a different drive or partition. At this point, choose Accept the drive.

5. Choose Do not format the partition. This will install Warp onto the DOS and Windows partition. From this point of installation, the installation program will copy files from the CD-ROM.
However, do not remove OS/2 diskette 1 from the A drive as the installation program will still use the drive. Only remove the diskette when told to do so; the system will be rebooted by the installation program.

6. A system configuration screen will be displayed and the user can configure the system. The configuration program will attempt to choose the best choice of drivers and options to be installed.

They can, however, be changed by clicking on the appropriate icons, selecting one from the list and closing the list. The country and the keyboard icons allow the user to choose the country and the codepage to be used by Warp.

(Skip this step if you do not have an audio adapter instaled in your system)
7. Set PCMCIA support to IBM ThinkPad 755, Multimedia Device Support to IBM ThinkPad Audio - Crystal Semi and CD-ROM Device Support to IBM CD-ROM II, Enhanced CD-ROM II. Set the SCSI Adapter Support to Future Domain 845,850 for the Dock I or Adaptec 1520 for the Dock II.

8. Select the appropriate printer and the printer port from the System Default Printer setup.

9. Select the Western Digital 90C24 from the Display Driver Install setup.

10. Click on OK, then on Install to complete the configuration. Press OK to add existing programs (windows preload) to the desktop. The installation will start again, copying files from the CD-ROM to the hard drive.

11. Choose Install Using Defaults for Monitor types from the monitor configuration/selection utility. The configuration files will be updated and the system will ask to be rebooted.

(Only applies to Warp Red Box)
12. Insert the specified Windows 3.11 installation diskettes when required. The system will reboot after installing all the relevant Windows files and drivers. Installation of WARP is now complete.

WARP will give full system sound support without installing any drivers normally shipped for OS/2 with the IBM 755Cs. However, the utility features should be installed.

Installing Sound Support under WIN-OS/2 (for systems that have an audio adapter)
1. Check that the Windows session has the following DOS settings:

INT_DURING_IO = On
VIDEO_RETRACE_EMULATION = Off
AUDIO_ADAPTER_SHARING = Required

2. Edit the SYSTEM.INI from the Windows directory and
a) Add the following lines under the heading [drivers]

Wave=CS31BA11.DRV
Aux=CS31BA11.DRV
Mixer=CS31BA11.DRV

Add the following lines under the heading [386enh]
Device=vsndsys.386

Add the contents of the TP750INI.ADD file to the end of the SYSTEM.INI, by issuing the following command
COPY
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM.INI+C:\OS2\DRIVERS\CS4231\TP750INI.ADD

3. Copy the Crystal Semiconductor CS4231 drivers to the OS2 directory by issuing the following commands:
a) Copy the file CS31BA11.INI from \OS2\DRIVERS\CS4231 to your \WINDOWS directory.
b) Copy the file CS31BA11.DRV from \OS2\DRIVERS\CS4231 to your \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.
c) Copy the file VSNDSYS.386 from \OS2\DRIVERS\CS4231 to your \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.

4. Reboot the System.
