Aptiva - Direct X errors using MPEG playback and games

Applicable to: World-Wide

Problem:
Some games like MechWarrior will install other forms of Direct X drivers onto the system. The drivers are incompatible with the ATI Video Drivers which are pre-installed.

Symptom:
Error message is displayed when trying to play back MPEG files, or the ATI Tabs to change graphics modes in 'Display Properties' is missing.

Resolution:
Load ATI Graphics drivers level 3.0 or later. With 2159 Service Level A machines, these are available through Update Connector. With 2134 / 2176 model machines, reinstall the Video Drivers which came with the machine.

Model 2134 and 2176 instructions:
1) Open Control Panel
2) Open System
3) Click on the Device Manager Tab
4) Click on the plus beside Display Properties.
5) Highlight ATI Mach64 PCI.
6) Choose Remove and click on OK.
7) Reboot and allow Windows 95 to reinstall the drivers.
