Aptiva - 2140/2142 Recovery instructions (Australia)

It is important that you back up any information you wish to keep from your hard drive onto floppy diskette before administering the following instructions. Any files or additional software you have saved to your hard disk drive will be deleted during the recovery process.
By proceeding with these instructions it is taken that you understand the hard drive on your Aptiva will be formatted and only the preloaded original software will be installed on your computer. Any additional software and the files you have saved to floppy diskette can be reloaded after the recovery is complete.
The following message will be displayed on the screen
Aptiva Recovery Utilities
You are about to enter the Aptiva Recovery
Utilities which will allow you to recover
your computer's original files.
You will be given the option to perform this
WITH or WITHOUT hard disk formatting,
or to select specific files for recovery.
Do you wish to continue (Y/N)? [ ]
<ESC> Exit <Y> Yes <N> No
The following warning message will appear
WARNING, ALL DATA ON NON-REMOVABLE DISK
DRIVE C: WILL BE LOST !
Proceed with Format (Y/N)?
A percentage number will appear during the format, when it reaches 100% it will prompt you to enter a volume label.
The following message will be displayed on the screen
Aptiva Recovery Utilities

Terms and Conditions
The Aptiva Selective Recovery utility will restore
the software preloaded with your system onto your hard
disk. You shall on ly use this utility and the Recovery
CD provided wiith your system for the purpose of
restoring this software to your hard disk. Any other
use is expressly prohibited. Once restored, use of this
software, including your use of Microsoft Windows, is
subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable
licenses which were provided with your system, including
the Microsoft end user license agreement.

The following message will now be displayed on the screen
Main Menu

2. Recover hard disk (WITHOUT format)

The recovery process has now commenced. You will see files inflating and extracting whilst scrolling on the left hand side of the screen. This process will take approximately 20 minutes.
The following message will then be displayed on the screen
Recovery complete!
Remove the Aptiva Product Recovery CD and
press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to reboot
The computer will then display an error message about a virus warning. This is to be expected !!
When the computer restarts, your computer will start detecting new devices
Then a screen will appear with the following message

Or, if you you to run the Tutorial at another time:
Press the ESC key to exit the Tutorial
The system may now ask for the "IBM Monitor Installation Disk". If it does :
The "Setting up Hardware" window will now appear, with a space at the bottom for "Copy files from:"
The system will now display a "Copy Files" window for a few minutes.
The "Date/Time Properties" window will appear
The "Modem Initialization Setup" window will appear
Make sure that the country selected is Australia. If it is not, please contact us on the number below.
A message will now be on the screen, stating that Setup has finished configuring your system
The computer will now reboot. When the system returns, it will display the Windows Login window
Your system will now detect and complete setting up unknown devices and hardware.
When Windows has finished loading, you will have the "Welcome to Windows 95" screen.
You can now see a default Windows 95 Installation, with a green coloured background
The following message will then be displayed on the screen;
Welcome to your new Aptiva.....
The following message will then be displayed on the screen;
First, tell us where you will be using this Aptiva computer
Now the Aptiva Welcome video will play. When the video finished, the screen will be showing some Sound and Motion samples
The following message will then be displayed on the screen;
About the Aptiva Welcome
.....
The following message will then be displayed on the screen;
One more stop before you are ready to live the Aptiva Adventure!
.....
The rest of the preload software will now be installed onto your Aptiva Computer.
At the completion of the install, the computer will restart.
When windows restarts, it will display the Windows login screen
