Aptiva - 2144/2168 (SL-H) Windows 95 tips

Symptom:
No sound for America Online events on a system with Windows 95 pre-installed
Problem Isolation Aid:
None
Fix:
The America Online events are not entered into the Windows 95 Registry. To add the events to the Registry, follow these steps:
1. From the Start menu, choose Run.
2. Type SYSEDIT and click [OK].
3. Click on the WIN.INI file.
4. Near the bottom of the file, you will see a section labeled [Sound]. It should be located between the [Prodigy] and [WAOL] sections.
5. Change the label of this section to [Sounds], and save the file.
6. Exit the System Editor, and Shut Down Windows 95.
The next time you boot your system, the America On-line sound events will be added to the Registry.
Symptom:
Using the Windows 95 Companion CD
Problem Isolation Aid:
None
Fix:
The Windows 95 Companion CD is basically a non-installable version of the Windows 95 CD. It contains film clips, a tutorial, a game, and the original Windows 95 files. To use the CD:
1. Put the Windows 95 Companion CD into the CD-ROM drive.
2. From the Start Menu, select Run.
3. Type D:\AUTORUN\AUTORUN and click on OK.
Symptom:
Strange symbols in Compton's Encyclopedia and other programs
Problem Isolation Aid:

Fix:
When Lotus SmartSuite was installed, the Monotype Sorts font was added to Windows. This is a symbol font similar to the Wingdings font included with Windows 95. The Monotype Sorts font is not compatible with Windows 95 and is causing the strange symbols in Compton's and other applications. To fix the problem:
1. From the Start Menu open Settings
2. Open Control Panel
3. Open the Fonts folder
4. Right-click on the Monotype Sorts font
5. Select Delete
