Additional Information:

Symptom:
Any machine running IBM AntiVirus 2.52 or 3.0 on Windows NT 4.0 may receive the following error in the Server and the Client's Eventlogs: "The server's configuration parameter "IPRstackSize" is too small for the server to use a local device. Please increase the value of this parameter... "

Temporary Workarounds:
There are 3 workarounds. If you are not receiving the error message detailed above, do not apply this fix. It will reduce system performance.

1. In the registry, add the following value:
Be aware that improper changes to the registry could cause the system to not start.
In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Service\LanManServer\Parameters add the Value IrpStackSize, type is DWORD, data is 12 in decimal. IrpStackSize is Case Sensitive.

2. Detach IrpStackSize.reg. For Netscape users Shift + click on the file to download. For Microsoft Internet Explorer users right click on the file and select the download or save to disk option. Once the file is downloaded to your machine, double-click IrqStackSize.reg and it will input the proper information in the registry. Reboot after the registry is changed.

3. Contact IBM Anti-virus Support for a fix. http://www.av.ibm.com

Resolution:
IBM AntiVirus has identified this as a bug in 2.51 and 3.0 of their code and has pledged a fix in the next version.

Explanation:
IBM AntiVirus "watches" every file that is ever sent/delivered to the server it is monitoring. This process of taking the files and checking them fills up the IRP stack in NT. Increasing this value to 12 allows enough buffer space for the system to function normally.
