Aptiva - 2144/2168 (SL-H/I) Gaming on Windows 95 Aptiva

Applicable to: United States

Most DOS games will run on the Windows 95 pre-loaded Mxx and Axx model Aptiva computers using the included AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files on a boot disk.

These AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files have been edited to provide three options when using the boot disk. The first option will load the original configuration with which your system came pre-loaded. The second option will provide expanded memory for DOS games that require expanded memory. The third option has EMM386 disabled, which is required by some newer DOS games.

NOTE: To get the most free memory in DOS, run FASTCFG at the DOS prompt, and configure it to use the first option for Sound Blaster Pro emulation and no modem. This will remove a 50KB driver file that uses much of your conventional or upper memory.

Here are the two files:

These files will work with the pre-loaded or 60AE7 version of the MWave drivers. If you have upgraded to the 20D drivers, the following line in the CONFIG.SYS file is removed:

DEVICE=C:\MWAVE_C\VHDD0420.EXE

This line is replaced with a line that loads the program VHD50420.EXE. This line will need to replace the VHDD0420.EXE line in the boot disk CONFIG.SYS file.
