ComCentral 33.6 - Various questions

Question:
Does the ComCentral Support Caller ID?
Answer:
Yes, but only number. If your Caller ID is setup for both Name & number the number should still display on the LCD Panel of the ComCentral.

* CallerID should be displayed when you are playing recorded voice messages on the ComCentral.

Question:
Can the ComCentral Page you when it receives a Fax or Voice mail?
Answer:
Yes, it can page you.

When paged from the ComCentral, you will see the number of voice and fax messages on your pager display. For example, if the end of your pager has 040201, then you have 4 messages in Mailbox 1, 2 messages in Mailbox 2 and 1 fax message.

Question:
Cannot receive fax from Faxback server like IBM-4Fax or Gateway's FaxServer..?
Answer:
ComCentral defaults to standard resolution (100x100dpi) for faxes and some faxback servers can't step down to standard resolution, change the setup of the ComCentral to "Fine Resolution".

Question:
What is Distinctive Ring? What can the ComCentral do with it?
Answer:
Distinctive Ring is a Service from your local phone provider that enables you to have two phone numbers on one physical line. Each number will have a unique ring. Your main number will have the standard ring ( 2 seconds on and 2 seconds off), the second number will have two short rings ("double ring").

ComCentral exploits the Distinctive Ring Service in the following manner:

You can setup a "fax only" phone number without installing a second phone number. ComCentral can be setup to answer the call as a fax answering device bypassing the voice/fax discrimination. You can Setup a ComCentral to answer with a different greeting (out-going message) with the distinctive ring phone number. For example, to have different greeting for you personal number vs. a business number.

Question:
Is there anyway to reset or initialize the ComCentral?
Answer:
Yes. Hold down the 3 buttons on the front panel until the unit displays "resetting".

Also, removing the power cable can reset the Com Central.

Question:
Can the ComCentral support receiving voice/fax on both lines simultaneously?
Answer:
It does support 2 lines, but NOT at the same time. It only has one DSP chip.

Question:
How can I upgrade the memory in the ComCentral?
Answer:
ComCentral uses flash memory and cannot use standard PC memory:

Question:
What driver should I select for the ComCentral in Windows 95?
Answer:
You have to pick the driver from the manufacturer's list in 95 and should select "7852-010".

Question:
What fax applications will work with ComCentral?
Answer:
Any fax application that uses a COM interface will work with the ComCentral. If faxes are available for download the ComCentral issues RING through the serial port. If an application is running it will pickup on this and start receiving faxes. Bitware is provided with the ComCentral as a complementary product.

Note: The Faxworks on the 755/760 (e.g. MWave systems will not work with the ComCentral -- MWave ONLY).

Question:
Is the ComCentral Class 1 or Class 2 fax/modem?
Answer:
ComCentral and FaxCentral is Class 2 only.

Question:
What is the FRU of the AC power Adapter?
Answer:
FRU: 75H2805.

Note: Power Adapter, Input: 110 V AC at 60Hz, Output: 9 V DC at (maximum) 1 A

Question:
When issuing AT commands to the modem it returns "Timeout-1", what does that mean?
Answer:
The timeout means that the ComCentral isn't seeing the carriage return.

Solutions: Defective product... or UART problem on the host machine.

Question:
Having trouble receiving a data call? ComCentral tries to answer with answering machine?
Answer:
Do the following:

1. You must know the incoming call is a data modem call
2. Pess and hold the "Delete" button until"ANSWER OFF" appears on the LCD
3. Use your data modem application to answer the call. your modem application must issue an ATA command when the phone rings which instructs the ComCentral 33.6 to answer the call and connect to the remote modem.

NOTE: ComCentral 33.6 does not support S0=1 AutoAnswer.

Question:
When trying to send a fax you get an error on the LCD stating "modem not responding" or "modem initialization failed?
Answer:
The DSP indicator on the LCD should be lit because the ComCentral is already handling a task. This can be caused by a scheduled fax or an inbound call event. Basically, the modem is already busy.

Question:
How do you put a comma in the dial string when trying to transfer files remotely?
Answer:
The comma is "#34" -- this isn't documented in the manual.

Question:
If the 2nd line is in fax-only mode, how do you force it into command mode?
Answer:
You must wait until the 2 beep tone, after that you have 10 seconds to put in the "#" and your security code to place the unit into command mode.

Question:
Will the ComCentral be upgraded to X2 technology?
Answer:
No, if at all it will be a later product.

Question:
If you interrupt the ComCentral will recording with a telephone on the same line what will happen?
Answer:
It will stop recording and let the person talk.

Question:
If you interrupt the ComCentral when receiving a fax what happens?
Answer:
The fax will be received once it has starts again.
