IBM IntelliStation M Pro (Type 6889) - External SCSI CD-ROM not recognized under PC-DOS

SYMPTOM:
After attempting to load device drivers for use with an external SCSI CDROM drive and rebooting the system, the CDROM drive is not recognized by DOS.
PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:
This tip applies to the IBM IntelliStation M Pro Series 6889 systems loaded with either IBM PC-DOS or Microsoft MS-DOS, and configured with an external SCSI CDROM drive.
FIX:
Add, or modify the following line to the AUTOEXEC.BAT file to allow the CDROM drive to function properly:
c:\mcdex.exe /d:aspicdq /m:12 /l:x
Note that "c:" in the above command line should point to the directory where MCDEX.EXE is located. Also, "x" in the parameter "/l:x" should represent the last drive appropriate for the particular computer.
