Aptiva - How to ensure that joystick is enabled in Windows 95 Device Manager

1. Click "Start" -> "Settings" -> "Control Panel", and then double-click the "System" icon.
2. The "System Properties" screen will open. Click the tab labeled "Device Manager" to bring it into focus.
3. Device Manager will display a list of all the hardware devices installed in your system. Locate the list entry labeled "Sound, video, and game controllers", and click the "+" sign beside it. A list of sound, video, and game controllers will expand beneath the "Sound, video, and game controllers" entry.
4. Locate the entry for the joystick port. It will be identified differently on the various Aptiva series. A summary of the gameport identifiers on each Aptiva system follows:
- Mxx, Axx, & 2159 systems (except 2159-S80 and S90): Gameport Joystick
- 2134 & 2176 systems (except 2176-C6V): MWave Gameport Joystick
- 2136, 2137, 2161, 2162, 2176-C6V, 2159-S80 & S90 systems: Crystal PnP Audio System Joystick
- 2140 & 2142 systems: Aptiva Joystick
Identify the gameport in your system, click on it once to highlight it, and then click the "Properties" button.
5. A gameport properties screen will appear. Check the "Device Status" area in the center of the screen. If the gameport is properly enabled, you will see a message stating "This device is working properly". (see Figure 1). If you do not see this message, then the gameport may be disabled, or there may be a problem with the software controlling the gameport.

6. Click "Cancel" on the gameport properties screen, and then click "Cancel" again on the Device Manager screen to return to the Control Panel.
